Lego Club has arrived at Sutton

A new Lego Club (currently invitation only) has been meeting on Friday lunchtimes. Our new Lego clubbers have been put to the test over the past few weeks, firing up their engineering, problem solving and team building minds.

Our first week saw members take on the roles of Engineer, Supplier and Builder to follow instructions to build Lego kits. The teams discovered how difficult it was just to stick to their assigned job and communicate between the various roles. They all did a fantastic job of constructing their kits as a team effort.

During the second week, our teams were given the task of building sturdy bridges over a river. They could use any design they wished but had to ensure it stretched wide enough over the river and could support its own weight and that of our Lego mini-figures. Some bridges proved stronger than others, but all were amazingly well thought out in their design and some had imaginative extra features. Josh and William's bridge in particular stood out for its amazing design and strength.

Our latest mission was to design and construct a seaworthy vessel. Again, the resulting craft were all fabulously creative in design. Some of the more elaborate designs, although fantastic to look at, failed to meet the crucial design criteria, in that they should float! Much fun was had by all setting their crafts off on their maiden voyage across the washing up bowl. Lewys and Lilian's craft proved to be the most successful, staying afloat for a good ten seconds before sinking to the murky depths.
