Sutton Lower School Parliament
Sutton School have an elected school parliament. The children nominated themselves for the roles of Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer. Following a vote the following children were elected:
Chairperson – Harry
Secretary – Josh M
Treasurers – Amrita and Harrison
It was decided to have two treasurers as we expect to be holding a lot of fundraising events.
The Parliament meets on monthly basis. It is up to the children to decide the agenda and what it wants the school parliament to organise. We have undertaken various projects from ensuring that the school rabbits have enough toys to amuse them, to being responsible for a ‘Buddy Bench’ and sign being introduced to the playground.
Any concerns that the children have are raised at the Parliament. All voices are heard. The children have some fantastic ideas for the coming year. Check out the minutes from each meeting to see how these are developing.
Water Aid (8th February 2017)
School Parliament held their first fundraising event raising money for WaterAid. The children on the Parliament served their fellow pupils with a choice of drinks at lunch time.
WaterAid (27th January 2017)
School Parliament greeted Graham Wilde from WaterAid this week. He came to help the Parliament’s fundraising initiative for the next 12 months. The children are going to attempt to raise the largest amount for a single charity. The target has been set at £1000. Mr Wilde showed the children why it was so important for people across the world to be able to access a clean water supply and have the use of toilets. Many were horrified to learn that many people have to walk approximately 4 miles from a dirty water supply with incredibly heavy canisters of water each day.
Healthy Snack Week (14th March 2016)
It has been a very busy week for the children of the school parliament. They have been promoting healthy eating with a Healthy Snack Week. The children have enjoyed fruit cookies, Fro-yos and sticks with dips. Just look at the queue of children waiting to be served!
Values Craft Day (29th January 2016)
The School Parliament organised a Values Craft Day. The children were each given a ceramic tile and asked to decorate this to show one of our values. As you can see from the results some amazing creations have been put together. Well done to all the children on making this a special day.
